In response to recent statements and news stories regarding the potential cause/s of autism, we find it important to reaffirm our position on the source and treatment of autism.
League School for Autism has been meeting the educational needs of autistic individuals and their families for nearly 60 years. Our goal is to empower each individual student to reach their greatest potential and we recognize that this will look different for each of our students based on their strengths, abilities, resources, and support needs. This has shaped our core values and mission and culminates in a set of beliefs we will continue to hold.
We believe each autistic individual deserves to be respected, loved, and included regardless of their challenges or level of support needs. We support scientific and evidence-based research that provides accurate, helpful information concerning the factors that result in an individual having autism and the treatments and educational modalities that will enhance the lives of autistic individuals and increase their ability to participate fully in the life of the community.
We reject misinformation and disinformation that is not supported by the science, that has been debunked by evidence-based research, or that denigrates autistic individuals based on their differences from the neurotypical population.
At the core of our mission, vision, and values is the desire to create a community where all autistic individuals and their families are welcomed, included, and supported to live interdependent lives that are valued and cherished.
